About 33,000 students live in Mainz. Most of them are enrolled at the Johannes Gutenberg University. It is situated on a picturesque hillside - much to the suffering of bicycle riders who have to make their way up here from downtown Mainz every day. Johannes Gutenberg University is the only institution of higher learning in Rheinland-Pfalz that offers degrees in Medicine, Law, Business, Science and the Humanities.The wide spectrum of degree programs has attracted nearly 28,000 students to Mainz - 3,000 of them have come from abroad.
